Individual Support

People come to therapy for many reasons. You might be seeking support for a specific challenge—such as stress, anxiety, depression, grief, or relationship difficulties. Or perhaps you feel drawn to explore something deeper and harder to name—patterns that seem to repeat, emotions that feel overwhelming or distant, or a sense of being stuck in life.
Whatever brings you here, therapy provides a safe and supportive space to explore your concerns, gain insight, and develop meaningful ways of engaging with yourself and the world.
Our approach is flexible and collaborative, allowing you and your therapist to find a way of working that feels right for you. Sessions might involve:
Talking through experiences to make sense of thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.
Learning practical skills for emotional regulation, communication, and well-being.
Building inner resources to support you long after therapy ends.
Understanding how your brain and nervous system influence emotions, relationships, and resilience.
Tuning into your body; noticing sensations and movement to support healing, self-awareness, and emotional regulation.
At its heart, therapy is an open-ended process of self-discovery—one that can help you shape how you show up in your work, relationships, and life. So, whether you’re navigating immediate struggles or seeking deeper self-understanding, you don’t have to do it alone.
Support for the challenges you face and the questions you hold.

That’s completely okay—many people we see are coming to therapy for the first time. Your therapist will guide you through the process and take time to understand what’s bringing you in. The first session is often a chance to get to know each other, talk about what you’re hoping for, and ask any questions you may have. There’s no pressure to have it all figured out—therapy is a space to explore at your own pace.

At The Place Within, all of our therapists are highly trained and committed to offering thoughtful, client-centred care, but approaches can differ.
Psychotherapists, counsellors and psychologists are all trained to work therapeutically, but there are differences in their training and approach:
Psychotherapists often work in-depth and long-term, focusing on emotional patterns, relationships, and self-awareness. They typically have extensive postgraduate training and are required to undergo years of their own therapy.
Psychologists are university-trained and often registered with Medicare. They may use evidence-based approaches like CBT and some can provide assessments and diagnoses.
Counsellors can support people through a wide range of life challenges and are often trained to work in a short- to medium-term capacity. Because training pathways can vary, it can be helpful to learn a little about each counsellor’s background to get a sense of whether their approach feels like a good fit for you.
You can read more about each of our therapist’s backgrounds and experience on their individual profile.
