Group work

Group therapy offers a unique and powerful opportunity to explore your inner world in connection with others.

Unlike individual therapy, where the focus is primarily on the one-on-one dynamic between you and your therapist, group work brings relational patterns into focus in real time.

A supportive and confidential way to:

  • Explore relationships by noticing how you feel, act, and react in the presence of others.

  • Gain insight into yourself by hearing how others experience you and reflecting on what arises for you in the group.

  • Receive support and challenge from peers who are also on a path of self-discovery.

  • Experience belonging and connection as you witness and are witnessed with compassion and honesty.

Group therapy focuses on the here and now—what is happening in the room, within yourself, and between others in the moment. This helps us to:

  • Build deeper self-awareness

  • Identify and shift unhelpful relational patterns

  • Explore how culture, family, and identity shape how we show up

  • Experiment with new ways of being and relating

You may find yourself trying out a more honest voice, softening your defences, or stepping into greater vulnerability and connection—all within the safety of the group container. Over time, these new ways of relating can ripple out into your wider life, supporting more fulfilling and authentic relationships beyond the therapy space.

In short, group therapy is not only a place for healing but also a space for practice—for becoming more fully yourself, in connection with others.

The Place Within operates on the land of the Yugarabul, Yuggera, Jagera and Turrbal Peoples. We acknowledge these peoples as the traditional custodians of this land. We pay respect to Elders past and present and extend that respect to all First Nations Peoples. We are committed to honouring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples’ wisdom, culture, dreaming and ongoing connection to Country. Sovereignty was never ceded.
